BAD MEDICINE LAKE FIVE (4.2) MILE SWIM
The Bad Medicine Lake Five-Mile Swim is held (almost) every summer at Bad Medicine Lake in Hubbard Co., Minnesota. The Lake is 4.2 miles from end to end, as the crow flies. Depending on wind, currents, and the exact trajectory of one’s swim, the actual distance swum can vary from 4.2 miles to well over five. The lake swim has been completed over as little as 1 hour 31 minutes (by team e’s very own Olympic medalist Peter Rocca, in 1997). It is perfectly ok to complete the swim in two or three legs; most of the swimmers listed below have succeeded in a one shot attempt at least once and often in many years. Lake temperature usually hovers in the low seventies. No one wears a wetsuit, though, because Wetsuits are for Weenies.
